If there is a travel
which can be qualified as exceptional, it certainly the travel
from Kathmandu to Lhasa. Mysterious land, mythical country, Tibet
or "Roof of the world" has remained very authentic
because of its severe climate and the absence of communication
which have protected it for long-time from foreign influences.
Despite the Chinese efforts to suppress during the Cultural Revolution,
the religion, the traditions & the life around the remaining
monasteries are still as alive and well preserved as Alexandra-David
NEEL described at the beginning of this century. This is a land
of predilection for photography, wild landscapes, the life and
the Tibetan Buddhist religion.
But we do not go to Tibet for its gastronomy nor for the quality
of its hotels. Both can be qualified as very rudimentary and
often very precarious; we advise that for the future travellers.
Altitude is the next thing to be fully aware of. Lhassa its at
the altitude of 3600m and the most part of your journey will
be on the average altitude of 4000m and plus. |

Day 1 : KATHMANDOU
Kathmandu arrival. Reception at the airport and transfer to the
hotel 2stars in Thamel we will take your passports at the installation
of Hotel, THE LATEST arrive on SUNDAY OR THURSDAY, the departure
for Tibet by the plane will take place Tuesday or sarurday.
Day 2
: KATHMANDOU
Free day and day for obtain visas.
Day 3
- KATHMANDOU - ZHANGMU
157 Km. (depart on Saturday) Depart for 4 to 5 h by bus
alone with paddy field and traditional nepali villages. Attention
in June and July, the road from Kathmandu is often in bad condition
and it is need to changing vehicles (bus, truck, etc) until Kodari
where would be nepalise formalities. In the nepalise border :
formalities of customs service, then passage of "Friendship
bridge" by walk for the first Chinese customs formalities
(short).
Then, climb toward Zhangmu, climbing can make sometime according
road condition, in truck. Beginning of second chinese customs
control, formalities can take regularly 2 to 3 h. Night in Guest
House at Zhangmu or Nyalam. For exchange money you can exchange
in Chinese bank at Zhangmu. Tibetan, Chinese and nepali changers
propose you to change (from dollar) in a correct rate from last
some time.
Day 4. ZHANGMU - TINGRI 214 Km
Depart to Tingri at 4.350 m, crossing by the Nyalam pass at 3.800
m and Lalung at 5.050 m, where you will stop to profit of nice
panorama. Very nice road along of which, you could admire the
high mountains : Langtang at 7.245m, Xixapangma at 8.013m, Dorje
Lakpa 6.980m, Everest at 8.848m, Lhotse at 8.516m, Makalu at
8.464m…. Night in Guest House at Tingri.
Day 5. TINGRI - SAKYA. Depart to Sakya and
visit of monastery, situated at 26 km from the road. The city
spreads on heights of the small valley, alone Trom River. The
monastery was constructed in 1073, it is center of Saky order
of tibetian Buddhism, it contains frescos and a certain number
of art work. We are hit while arriving by the dark gray color
of buildings. A big part of the monastery was entirely destroyed
in the time of Cultural Revolution. Night in Guest House at Sakya
(very precarious)
Day 6:
SAKYA - XIGATSE
Depart to Xigatse, crossing by the culminating point of your
travel at 5.220 m. Xigatse is the capital of the Tsang suburb
and second city of Tibet. Night in Guest House at Xigatse.
Day 7 : XIGATSE - GYANTSE 90 Km
Morning, visit of city, today remains on the hill foundations
of an imposing castle ramparts and which give an idea of important
past time of building where lived the most powerful king of Tsang.
Visit of principle monuments, of Tashilhunpo monastery, seat
of Panchen Lama (Panchen = Big scholar), situated at west of
Xigaste at the bottom of Drolma monastery. Gendrun Drup known
as the ancestor of the Dalai Llama lineage is buried there. It's
only one with 6th Dalaï Lama who wasn't buried in Lhassa.
In a point of view architectural, the site is a real marvel,
composed by imposing red monuments, crowned by roofs of gold
scintillates, all surrounded by a huge wall.
Afternoon, depart by the road to destination of small village
of Gyantse. Visit of very nice Kurnbum or Pango Choten, entirely
recovered of gold and with 2 eyes painted on the superior circular
wall. And the castle which found on the hill before principal
city. The superior floor although in bad state shelters the very
beautiful frescos and the immense mandalas. Night in hotel at
Gyantse.
Day 8
: GYANTSE - LHASSA 280
Km
Depart for the more long road, bordered by several villages,
Yaks, sheep, mountain and of Yamdrok lake that you'll follow
till 50 km, with its turquoise eyes. Passage of Karo pass at
5010 m and Kamba at 4794 m before to arrive at Bramapoutre and
finale destination to Lhassa. Nights at hotel Yak or Flora.
Day 9
and 10: LHASSA. Capital
of Tibet, situated on the North strand of the Kyichu river. In
origin, the capital constructed near the Otang lake, call Rasa
of word "Ralasa" (its product by the water agitated
by the wind)
You'll visit the Potala, construct by the Red Hills, its construction
start in 1645. It was the residence of several Dalaï Lamas.
At the exception of the thirteenth Dalai Llama tomb, it didn't
undergo practically any transformation since its construction.
Since the roof, we have a magnificent view of Lhassa and the
pond of the Kyichu valley. You'll discover Jokand, religious
center of Lhassa where million of Tibetain pilgrims come from
all suburb, comes to pray every day at Barkhor in moving their
praying wheels.
Visit of Drepung monastery "Mount of rice", founded
in 1416, in the origin, there was just some building then after
it is became a very important religious center, it has sheltered
more then 7000 monks same as second, third, fourth and fifth
Dalaï Lamas until achievement of Potala. Since 1982, more
then 400 young monks try to recreate the cycle of study. In return
visit of Serra monastery, small community monastic which have
collect until 5000 monks and also nuns, of workers and civil
workers. One of the most sacred object of Serra is "Vajra"
or "Dorje" in tibétain, it's a prototype of
any other Vajra in Tibet, discover of the Padmasambhava cave
at Yerpa and shown to public just one time by a year. Nights
at hotel Yak or Flora.
Day 11- LHASSA - GANDEN -depart of TREK. Passage
of 2 passes at 5000m during the trek. Depart in jeep (land cruiser)
to the Ganden monastery, fast visit and start of the trek in
direction of Samyé, (6 to 7h of walk per day in general).
Trek in tent with english speaking guide and kitchen boy. Carriage
by Yaks. Night in tent.
Day 12/13
and 14. Trek 6 to 7h
of walk per jour. Night in tent.
Day 15. TREK, last day of trek, arrive at SAMYE
Come down in Samyé End of 4 days of trek which brings
you in monastery. Night in Guesthouse of monastery. Samye is
a monastery which was constructed in 7th century by the monks
comes from India "Guru Rimpoche" who brings the voice
of Bouddha and "created " the tibetain Buddhism religion
adapting a part of "Bon" religion which was a Tibetan
animist religion at that time. (this religion is always practice
and the religion exist). This monastery was practically entirely
destroyed by the "Red guards" in the time of cultural
revolution, monks, use himself currently to rebuild gradually.
This monastery is very isolated, on one strands of the Bramhapoutre
stream, it needs two hours by boat to arrive there since the
road that brings to Tsetang and Lhassa.
Day 16. SAMYE - GONGAR
Depart to a very beautiful walk in barge for the passage of the
stream in (2 to 3h) and road toward Gongar. (possibility to go
visit the very interesting monastery at 1/4 hour from Gongar
we can see still there thte demolitions of the Chinese). Night
at Gongar in Guest house of good quality
Day 17
: GONGAR. - KATHMANDOU
Depart early to transfer Gongar airport and departure to destination
of Kathmandou. This travel in plane is one of the most beautiful
of world, panorama on the Mount Everest, (to be in right hind
of plane to have a nice view on Everest in about 40 minutes of
flight) Makalu Kanchanjunga, Cho-Oyu is extraordinary and will
remain engraved surely in your memory. Return in same hotel.
Day 18: KATHMANDOU - PARIS
Transfer early in the morning to airport. Flight in destination
of Paris. |

arrived some times that they change the programs or lodging…
We can't take responsibility in any case of every sort of change
interval, land slides, of the road obstructs, of all accidental
event, natural disaster, or politic events which can change the
travel course, which would shorten it or would lengthen it and
some problems that ensue. All this doesn't give place to any
repayments. The Chinese reply us in case of problem, or that
they can't do anything, or that was decided by their Chinese
tourism office ….. which is an office of army occupation... |

Regulation:
The regulation of your journey must between fact has the arrival

the stay in Tibet, accommodation under tents at 2 places and
in Hotel and Guest House, travelling in van Land Cruiser (6 to
8 hours per day) accompanied by a Tibetan guide, English speaking..
During the trek (Kora) bags and tents are carried by Yaks. Meals
prepared by an experienced cook. Accommodation in 4 star hotel
of good quality in Kathmandu. |

Note: All participants have to give a copy
of their insurance, with the address, tel and fax number of insurance
company. This insurance has to cover the helicopter rescue in
case of accident or sickness. In case of your insurance don't
cover helicopter rescue, you have to fill a form in Kathmandu
and make agreement that you will pay yourself the amount of expenses
paid by Nepal Ecology Treks for your helicopter rescue or research.
Without this agreement, you cannot participate in trek.
** In
trek the guide is allowed
to change the itinerary, depending of the weather, climate and
the physical condition of participants. Each participant who
stop his trek or make this trek more-fast cannot ask any money
compensation to the agency. |
